BOLIVAR - Joan S. Dunning, formerly of 78 Plum Street, passed away Sunday June 14, 2015. Born April 1924 she was the daughter of Irving and Eva Pendelton Swarthout. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert (Dutch) Dunning, who she married on March 31, 1945 in Columbia, SC.

She was a graduate of Bolivar Central School and Elmira Business Institute. She worked in the local bank, State Bank, now Steuben Trust Co, for 39 years. She was a member of the Bolivar United Methodist Church. Joan enjoyed gardening, reading and entertaining her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joan was a long time member of the Little Genesee Garden Club, the Red Hat Society and regularly attended the Retired Bankers Luncheon. She was also a supporter of the BRAG Historical Society and the Little Genesee Library.

She is survived by her son William (Valerie) Dunning of Moira, NY; three daughters Robyn (John) Hogan of Bemus Point, NY, Wendy (Dick) Lanterman of Bolivar, NY and Paige (Gary) Doane of North Carolina; 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, three brothers; Jim, Irving Jr. and Robert and five sisters; Helen Goff, Mary Swarthout, Maxine Antoon, Betty Decewicz and Athelene Wight.

Private funeral services and burial were held in the Maple Lawn Cemetery in Bolivar, NY with the Rev David Herne of the Heritage AFlame Ministries officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Schaffner Funeral Home Inc. Bolivar, NY.
