PORTVILLE - Vincent D. Sallazzo 88 of 74 Portville-Ceres Road and a former Bolivar resident, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday February 17, 2015. Born November 15, 1926 in Bolivar he was the son of Domenic & Teresa Ciampa. On June 3, 1950 in Olean he married the former Anelia Perugini. Mrs. Sallazzo preceded him in death on September 24, 2014.

Vince was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Philippines and Korea during WWII. During the 1950’s he worked for Antoon’s Furniture Store Wellsville. Later was employed by the F.A. Loop & Son Co. Furniture Store and Funeral Home in Bolivar and Hahn & Schaffner Co. Bolivar. He owned & operated Vince’s Hardware Store in Bolivar. From 1959-1982 was a school bus driver for the Bolivar Central School. For over thirty years was the faithful and dedicated right hand at the Schaffner Funeral Home Inc. He was a member of the St. Mary of the Angels Church Olean. He was also a member and past commander of the Kenyon Andrus post # 772 American Legion Bolivar. Vince was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer and enjoyed Italian cooking.

Surviving are three children; Teresa (Henry) Kraket of Portville, Michael “Mick” (Alice) Sallazzo of Portville and Patrick Sallazzo of Portville. Also surviving are six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one brother Anthony Sallazzo of Bolivar and two sister-in-laws; Dina (Robert) Clarke of Olean and Helen Perugini of Olean.

Private family visitation will be held in the Schaffner Funeral Home Inc. Bolivar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday February 21, 2015 at Sacred Heart Oratory Portville at 11:30 A.M. with Rev. John Adams as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery Allegany.

Memorials to the Charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
