BOLIVAR - Earl P. “Garbo” Harriger, 84, of 1434 Kansas Hollow Road passed away at home on Friday January 8, 2016, following a brief illness. Earl was born March 16, 1931 in Richburg, NY to Wade and Signe Anderson Harriger. In 1956, he married Pauline Potter; Mrs. Harriger preceded him in death on April 29, 2012.

Earl was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was a former employee of the American Olean Tile Company and a welder for then Dresser Clark Company in Olean, retiring after forty years of service. Mr. Harriger was a local oil producer in the Bolivar area. Earl was a member of a number of organizations including: the Allentown United Methodist Church, member and past master of the Macedonia Lodge 258 F & AM, Bolivar Chapter #280 Royal Arch Masons, Coudersport PA Consistory, Kenyon Andrus Post 772 American Legion, New York State Oil Producers Association, a life member of the Bolivar Fire Department, town committeeman for the Allegany County Republican Party, and was a volunteer at the Bolivar Pioneer Oil Museum. Earl was a passionate supporter of the Bolivar-Richburg Athletic Programs and attended many boys and girls games, especially the boys wrestling matches.

In addition to his wife, Earl was preceded in death by a brother, Alan Harriger. Surviving are three daughters; Susan (Smiley) Weber, Bolivar; Dianne (Tim) Safford, Bolivar; Dawn (Jeff) Doane, Friendship; one brother, Robert (Penny) Harriger, Williamsburg, VA; and one sister-in-law, Nancy Harriger, Phoenix AZ. Earl was known to his seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren as “Hee Haw.”

Friends may call at the Schaffner Funeral Home, Inc. in Bolivar on Wednesday January 13, 2016 from 2- 4PM and 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held Thursday January 14, 2016 at 11AM at the Allentown United Methodist Church with Rev. Vickie Hedlund officiating. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Bolivar.
